Moving Lights or automated lighting have come a long way in 25 years.
There are many different kinds of moving lights from the moving head fixtures where the entire fixture pans and tilts to moving mirror lights where the fixture stays stationary and the light is focused to a controllable moving mirror.
Internally they are similar. They can all change color, focus position, beam size and most have stock gobo patterns.
You can also order custom gobo patterns and artwork of your choice such as a company logo.
There are as many different lighting consoles to program moving lights as there are moving lights. Each moving light programmer has his/hers own favorite controller.
It’s all about personal preference as most of the consoles can accomplish the same thing.
I have been working with moving lights for about 20 years. I was trained in Dallas at Varilite Inc.
They were the inventors of moving lights and also designed the process of programming a show with automated lights. That process is still the same today.
I have programmed shows on almost every major console on the market. When working on a show I can either program myself or sometimes I hire an outside programmer to speed things along.
This gives me more time as the designer and can focus on the look of the show and have a hand with the technical end of programming.
I am also available to help you re-program your existing touring lighting system or your existing club or theater lighting system.
It’s an easy way to give your show a new look when you don’t want to re-invent the wheel
